I’m not a HUGE reader, but when I saw that my first boss from NBC in NYC, Mary Dell Harrington, wrote a book dealing with teens, I knew I had to pick it up and read it.
I remember sitting at the desk outside of Mary Dell’s office in 1992 listening to her talk about kids and dogs and suburban life – a far cry from where I was in my life at the time. Who would have thunk that all these years later she would write a book that would now resonate with me – mother of four teens? Crazy.
This book is awesome reading for anyone with high-school and college-aged kids. It takes you through parenting a teen BEFORE they leave for college, the process of applying to college and what to expect once they are there. What I loved about this book is that it validated SO many things that I feel like we are doing RIGHT and it pointed out the things that we could be doing….well….better:)
I loved reading all the Do’s and Don’ts lists that Mary Dell and her co-author included. I suppose it would have been helpful to read this book BEFORE we dropped Billy at school. But now that I HAVE read it, I know we will be that much more prepared when the next three fly the coop.
Check out their super popular Facebook group! It’s a community of more than 130K people with children from 15-25, who share stories and offer advice from their own personal experiences. You’ll see articles from experts on the subject of teens, but you’ll also hear stories from regular people – all of whom are dealing with the same things that you are.
Anyhoo, pick this up for yourself or a friend who has a teen/young adult. It’s good stuff!
Trust the mother – you’ll be glad you did.
