Brace yourself – this is a LONG ONE……..

A good pal of mine emailed me the other day, “Are tall boots out?”.  “Hmmmm..”, I thought, “good basic question”.  The answer isn’t just about boots, but about PERSONAL STYLE in general.  Here are my thoughts.

Style is YOU.   Style is wearing what looks good on YOU and what feels good on YOU.  It has NOTHING to do with what is “in” or what is “out”.  If I read another blog about “What’s In” and “What’s Out”, I’m going to throw up!!!!

You have to listen to YOUR VOICE and what YOU LIKE.  Following the trends gets you out of your “ZONE”.  What I mean by “ZONE” is the space where you look and feel comfortable in your clothing choices.  When you get out of your “ZONE” and follow a trend, you feel self-conscious, you wear it once and dump it, or you actually never even put it on.  Stay in your “ZONE” – you know what looks good on you and you know what makes you feel great.  Side note:  you can get IDEAS from trends, but when you walk out in the latest GIANT sneaker or mom-jeans that don’t suit you…..well, you’re out of your zone.

So, back to the tall boot question.  YES!  For ME, tall boots are ok under two conditions:
1) I wear them with a midi dress
2) They have a heel on them.
?
Here’s the Key: That might not be the case for YOU! You might look AMAZING in a cool flat boot worn with jeans (pictured below) and a BIG YUMMY SWEATER!  I don’t because I have short calves – YES I DO.  The boots often come up too high on me with jeans, so it’s a no for me. I tried my hardest to wear the Stuart Weitzman, flat, over-the-knee boots. Bought them, wore them, felt like a freak and I sold them. I also don’t wear high boots with a SHORT DRESS OR SKIRT because when they hit my KNEE (unlike the gal below) in the wrong place, it looks all wrinkled and that’s just NOT CUTE.  I am 50 after-all.

Shout out to my friend, KITTEN-CAT:
Here is when you do NOT under ANY circumstances, wear TALL BOOTS, or any boot for that matter.  When your boot is OLD and WORN, has an UGLY HEEL, or a WITCHY-POO TOE, you just say GOODBYE and SO LONG. Get yourself something with an updated heel that looks nice and fresh.  You don’t have to spend a TON OF MONEY, people!

There you have it.
1) Stay in your zone
2) Trust your OWN STYLE
3) Update anything that just plain looks bad and worn

I happen to love all the boots shown below.  Try ’em!

xo

?PS – The one dead center – Stuart Weitzman leopard (of course) – is going to show up in another post.  That is my FAVE, hence the center, larger placement 🙂
