This time of year, seems like everyone wants to know, “Do I wear anything on my legs when I’m wearing a skirt or a dress?”
The truth is that I have not worn tights – opaque or sheer – since my days in NYC and Chicago. During my 15 years in LA, none of us gals ever wore anything on our legs – we just didn’t need it. Our legs were toned and tan…but that’s another story….
Here’s the truth: opaque and sheer tights play different roles. Sheer are much more evening and opaque are much more casual evening or daytime – simple as that.
I love the way the sheer looks on Kate, Heidi, Victoria and Diana…..all evening looks….
I have heard from the younger set that sheer is REALLY in with a look like this:
I think I’ll leave that to my two seventeen year olds 🙂

Ok – opaque tights……
You know who is famous for her opaque look – Kate Middleton. In the evening, she’s in sheer, but almost every daytime look shows her in BLACK opaque tights with BLACK shoes. Sometimes, she’s even wearing, dare I admit, a bootie with her tights. She always looks amazing when she’s “working”. I wish I had somewhere to go in this outfit ;0
One of my clients/friends wanted SO badly to wear a little tan corduroy mini skirt. She was FREEZING and wanted to wear tights. YES to that, buuuuuut……you’ve got to follow three little things:
1) Match the TIGHTS TO THE SHOES. Tan skirt, black tights, black shoe/bootie
2) Match the TIGHTS TO THE SKIRT. Black skirt, black tights, grey shoe/bootie
3) March all three! Black skirt, black tights, black shoe/bootie
I’d wear any of these pieces with black opaque tights. Legs…legs…..legs…..
